Title: ¡Una celebración!
Intended for
Intermediate Spanish students (level 1B) will talk about how their family celebrates special events and compare them with how our ePals* celebrate events in their families. First students will share and narrate a photo of the celebration using Fotobabble. Next students will embed their Fotobabble link to our class’ Edmodo wall. All students will then listen to and comment on each other’s Edmodo posts. Finally, after comparing celebrations among students of our own class and our ePals, students will record similarities and differences between our classes in our wiki.
*By the time I do this technology module, I hope to have either set up traditional ePals or connected with the Spanish class my colleague is communicating with (they are using Edmodo). If we do not yet have ePals, I will have my Latina student aid create a Fotobabble of an important family celebration in her family to share with the class.
Learner outcomes
1. Students can describe a family event/celebration, including who and what is present, what is happening and why the celebration is important to his/her family.
2. Students can use Fotobabble to share a photo and narrate a description of the celebration.
3. Students can share their Fotobabble to our Edmodo wall then listen to and comment on the similarities and differences among students in our class and our ePal friends.
4. Students will investigate the similar and differing cultural products, practices and perspectives between the two classes and post their findings to our class wiki.

1. Brainstorm an important event/celebration that happens in your family. You might think about birthdays, anniversaries, bar/bat mitzvahs, first communions or other religious holidays.
2. Find a picture of the celebration and then write a paragraph describing the celebration. Answer the questions: who and what is present, what is happening and why is the celebration important to your family? Use familiar vocabulary, especially the family and celebration vocabulary we have been practicing in class. Not everything your write about needs to be present in your photo.
3. Upload your photo to Fotobabble and record your description of the celebration.
4. Embed and post the Fotobabble link to our Edmodo wall.
5. Listen to the Fotobabble projects of at least five members of our class. Comment in Spanish in Edmodo on the similarities or differences do you notice between how you and the other students from our class celebrate special events
6. Listen to at least five posts from our ePals. Comment in Spanish in Edmodo on the similarities or differences do you notice between how you and our ePals celebrate special events.
7. Work with your table group to post your observations to our class wiki (in Spanish if you can and English if you cannot). Compare and constrast how our class and our ePals celebrate special events. What products are similar and different in celebrations? What practices are similar and different? Do we have similar or different perspectives on familial celebrations? Why do you think this is?
